Spindle Bushing Reamer Alignment Tool Instructions

The front spindles of the Model T Ford pivot around the spindle bolt on two bronze bushings. Over time these bushings wear and need replacing. The orignal spindle bolts had a diamter of 0.502". The replacement bolts have a body diameter of 0.500" with a small step at the top to insure a tight fit into the axle. The reamer (Lang's P/N 271RM) is sized at 0.500" and is intended to work with the replacement spindle bolts.
When the new bushings are installed, it is important that they are aligned in straight line so the spindle bolt can pass through. Simply reaming each bushing to 0.500" is not adaquite. The Spindle Bushing Reamer Alignment Tool is used to insure that the reamer is properly centered in the spindle body while reaming the first bushing. Once the first bushing is properly aligned it can be used to guide the reamer while reaming the second bushing.

• 1. Remove the top and bottom bushings from the spindle body. These can be removed using the Split End Bushing Driver (Lang's P/N 2713SPL).
• 2. Press one of the new bushings (Lang's P/N 2713) into the spindle body. It does not matter if this is the top or bottom bushing.
• 3. Slide the Spindle Reamer (Lang's P/N 2713RM) into the other end of the spindle body and into the first bushing installed.
• 4. Slide the Spindle Reamer Alignment Tool over the reamer with the cone section facing the spindle body.
• 5. Slide the Spindle Reamer Alignment Tool into the hole on the spindle body. The cone shape will center the tool in the hole, thus centering the reamer in the spindle body.
• 6. Ream the first bushing.
• 7. Remove the reamer and the alignment tool.
• 8. Install the second bushing.
• 9. Slide the reamer through the first bushing and ream the second bushing.
